Hi, I’m Michael

I work in the substance use treatment industry and I am also a person in long-term recovery.  I understand the commitment and support necessary to successfully navigate the challenging path of early sobriety.  I am able to draw on both my personal experience as well as my diverse educational background when working with individuals in recovery and their loved-ones.

My passion lies in working with individuals and families struggling to find stability in their lives.  I enjoy helping people to rediscover their passion for life by mentoring them on their healing path.  I believe we all can continue to grow when given the right tools and support to do so.

Recovery Mentoring

A Recovery Mentor provides support for people working to overcome destructive behaviors that no longer serve them. The mentor supports others in making healthy decisions while they navigate the world of early recovery. A recovery mentor helps provide a bridge during the difficult transition between treatment and the real world. Often times, a loved-one may utilize a recovery mentor to intervene and help navigate treatment options to determine the best course of action.

Recovery is about so much more than just abstaining from drugs and alcohol. It is a process of replacing old damaging behaviors with new daily practices meant to help us remember who we really are. This healing work allows us to explore our passions, create deep relationships and find peace of mind. It is designed to help us create a life of deep meaning and purpose.

In our work together, sessions are designed to help you navigate early recovery and avoid common pitfalls that may threaten your sobriety and wellbeing. This process begins by working together to create a comprehensive recovery plan that will help you navigate early recovery and ensure you are taking advantage of the many different support systems that are available to you.

We will also utilize mindfulness practices and shamanic drumming to help you explore the reasons you used drugs and alcohol in the first place. These practices help us to better understand the things that continue to create difficulty in our lives while also creating a safe space to do healing around them. We will work together to create life-long practices that will allow you to better understand yourself and create a life filled with deep connections, joy and inner-peace.

About Me

I was born and raised in New Jersey. During my teenage and early adult years I struggled to find my way.  I turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with the many issues in my life I was afraid to address.  I spent many years suffering and hurting the people close to me.  It took multiple years of being in and causing pain before I was ready to try something different.  Fortunately, I chose to be admitted to an inpatient facility and spent the next four months doing the most difficult work I have ever done.  With a lot of help, I was able to understand that drug use wasn’t really my problem.  Drugs were rather a symptom of my problem.  I had been using drugs to escape the pain in my life that I was unwilling to look at.  Slowly, I started to address the things I had been running from for so long and my life began to change.  I began a daily meditation practice that helped me to stay grounded while addressing very painful elements of my life.  After leaving treatment, I chose to begin a career in the treatment industry so I could begin to give back to those who suffer as I did.

I spent several years learning about  the industry while working at various treatment facilities.  During this time, I also continued to learn about other treatment modalities and healing practices that helped  further transform my life.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on my journey, it’s that recovery doesn’t happen alone.  Recovery is a process that asks us to humble ourselves and ask for help.  I found early sobriety to be extremely challenging because I wasn’t aware of all the support services that were available to me at the time.  It is because of my experience that I decided to become a mentor for others in early recovery.

As a recovery mentor, it is my goal to help encourage you to do the healing work necessary to create a life of deep meaning and purpose.
